Blue Cross Blue Shield is a charitable organization that operates under its own separate license from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

The commitment of BCBSM, in contrast to that of other health insurance companies operating in the state, is what sets it apart from those other organizations. That goal has not shifted at any point. Nearly seven decades ago, Blue Cross Blue Shield was founded with the mission of giving individuals the peace of mind that comes with knowing they would have access to medical care whenever they have a need for it.

Today, that charitable organization continues to work toward the same goal, which is being accomplished by the corporation in a variety of methods, including the following:

Providing everyone, regardless of their situation, with access to some form of health insurance coverage
Never, ever, ever give up your coverage due to health concerns.
Through our collaboration with the state, MIChild will provide coverage for more than 32,000 children.
Contributing financially to thirty free clinics located across the state
providing patients with improved health and health care while contributing more money than any other corporation to this cause
Through the Alliance for the Advancement of Nonprofit Health Care, we are advocating and educating.
