We are seeking a Director of Engineering who can lead a team through architecture design, technical requirements definition, and engineering execution. This individual will be collaborating with the Executive Leadership, Product Management, and Customers.

Who You Are

You are a strong people manager with deep technical skills, interested in influencing the opinions and decision-making of senior executives and/or major customers on matters of significance to the organization. You are comfortable in design discussions with architects and engineers. You can review architecture designs and solutions, providing feedback that will help your team members gain alignment. You are not afraid to be constantly learning, leading a team that is using innovative programming languages, technologies, and tools to drive groundbreaking new products.

What You Will Do

The Director of Engineering role reports to our VP of Security Innovation to manage the charter, strategy and day-to-day deliverables of the team driving our next-generation AI-powered security products. This position will help identify and solve obstacles to achieving our vision.

Your team is expected to review existing technologies, identify areas to leverage and drive improvement, and create groundbreaking new technology from scratch. They are a small team driving the next evolution of security at Cisco and beyond, self-starters who are able to work under minimal direction.

You will be looked to both internally and externally Cisco for your expertise, and as such must be technically savvy in firewalls, secure web gateways, and/or SASE/SSE. You will use this knowledge coupled with your ambition to lead a team that is writing high-quality, production-ready code to re-invent security with us.

Required Experience

• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years of experience in leading software engineering teams.
• Strong leadership skills and experience in hiring, mentoring, and developing top engineering talent.
• Deep technical expertise in network security and experience with security technologies, protocols, and products.
• Track record of delivering high-quality software products on time and on budget.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically.

Desired Experience

• Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning expertise.
• Past C, Javascript and/or Golang development experience.
• Experience with agile development methodologies.
• Familiarity with Cisco products and technologies.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
